Extra Curricular
Overview
As you explore the options in this section of the web page you will find something of interest to each child. There is an expectation that children are involved in the life of the school as they look for opportunities to grow.
Most of these opportunities are provided free of charge, there are however a number of activities provided by external service providers who charge a participation fee. Computer club and art club are internal clubs which charge a nominal fee.
Additional Opportunities
International Touring Teams
We have proudly hosted a number of international school touring teams, for a variety of sports (e.g., cricket, hockey, netball, rugby, and tennis), especially from the United Kingdom and other countries in Africa. Playing against students from other countries gives our learners the opportunity to experience and interact with other cultures and make international connections.
Winter Sport Tour
Every April, we provide a touring opportunity for learners in the U/13 Hockey, Netball, and Rugby teams. As of 2018, the Winter Sport Tour has been combined with the Grade 7 camp experiences, allowing Grade 7s who are not in the playing teams to support their classmates. The tour goes up the Garden Route, where the teams participate in various matches and festivals, and where all students have the opportunity to explore the Cango Caves, walk with Elephants in Knysna, and canoe up the Breede River (among other fantastic options). This event is always a highlight of the school year, and is enjoyed by both the learners and the teachers involved.
ITU Triathlon
A new addition to our sport selection and we believe this will become very popular amongst our students. The sport of triathlon offers the three disciplines, namely swimming, cycling and running, and because of this multifaceted mix, it encourages the athlete to work on their weakest element, with the view to improving overall.
Inter House Competitions
Apart from our interschool participation, our learners are also involved in a number of inter house competitions, including athletics, swimming, tennis, cricket, rugby, netball, hockey, chess, squash, and cross country. On arrival at Kirstenhof, all learners are assigned to one of our four houses (Red, Yellow, Green, or Blue) and will remain in these houses until they leave us. Inter House competitions are an excellent way to foster camaraderie between learners.
